If he didn't go for the money, he could have signed with the Red Sox and be in the ALCS. Though he would have only had been a 5th starter.

It seems unlikely he'll be back. He struggled a lot this season and the injuries piled up against him.

At least he ended his career appropriately -- with a strikeout.

This will be it for him.

Oh, and the Yanks aren't out of this yet. Phil Franchise is pitching very well thus far.

Let the Yanks keep him, us Texans don't want him back, for anything. :D

The word "traitor" has been used in reference to Clemens by several of my friends. :)

Oh come on now, the Astro's pitching is the ONLY reason they were able to get to the WS a few years ago.

Haha. Before leaving the Red Sox to Toronto, he used to say the only other team he would play for would be his home town team. It's all about the money to him. Zero allegiance to anyone.

I know nothing of being what Clemens is, a legend really, but I would think that going out, doing the thing I love, regardless of what other people think of me, would be good.

It would be fitting.

Drago: I vinn for ME! FOR MEEEE!

Honestly, if I'm in my mid-40s and have the chance to sucker the Yanks into paying me an exorbitant amount of money, I'd do the same thing ;)

Who cares? The man is one of the top 5 pitchers of all time. He can do what he wants as far as I'm concerned.

Yes, he needs to hang it up. He should have stayed retired when he left the Yankees the first time.

It's 5:17 AM.
I can barely keep my eyes open.
Good night.

(Good job Hughes.)

I agree, he should have ended it years ago, but especially last year. He's had a great career. He needs to focus on something else.

Didn't he post a 2.20 era in Houston one year? And win a Cy Young?

Greatest post WW 2 pitcher for sure.
ummm... Nolan Ryan?
Was that supposed to be a joke?

Ryan: 324W-292L, 5714 K's, 3.19 ERA, No Cy Young's

Clemens: 354W-184L 4672 K's, 3.12 ERA, 7 Cy Young's

Ryan was good, but he was never the best pitcher for any single year.
Clemens had 6 20+ win seasons, Ryan only had 2.

Finally, if you look at ERA+ which allows you to compare pitchers from different eras and ballparks you will see Ryan at 112 and Clemens at 142. (100 being the average pitcher in the league.)

2004 he had a 2.98 era and won.
2005 he had a 1.87 era and came in third.
Last year he had a 2.3 ERA, still rather good.

He is getting old and time is catching up with him.

Ryan didn't have access to steriods like Clemens did either.

BTW Sandy Koufax and Bob Gibson were both better than Clemens
