hmm, well some potential problems may occur. it's always best to disconnect the power supply. if your dilemma is that you can't disconnect the power cord from the psu then try disconnecting the atx power cord from the mother board.
but i wouldn't try clearing cmos without disconnecting the power. that's like installing new hardware without grounding yourself first . Very risky o_0
It won't kill your MB if you clear CMOS wihtout disconnecting ATX power - but don't be surprise to see it turn on. If I remember, usually turning off the ATX power switch or disconnecting the cord in the back will prevent the instant on sensation.
Isos is right, it won't kill the board as long as the power is OFF... the main switch and if you want to be safe, pull the plug too... i've accidentally done it a few times with power switch on and nothing happened except the instant-on phenomenon
WRONG!! I killed my new K7T Turbo-R last week when I pulled the cmos jumper without unplugging my machine. I had powered the machine down but forgot to unplug the PS. I heard a pop and it was dead. So the answer is YES! You can fry a board if you don't unplug it. The thing I hate most about it is that I've cleared many cmos jumpers in the past without unplugging the power supply without any bad things happening, but this time it did. Be safe about it..............unplug the PS. I've learned my lesson
