Clearing Cmos for Xeon 5660

Just picked up a Xeon 5660 to stick in my X58 system. When I stuck it in system it failed to boot. Haven't done this before so schoolboy question but should I clear the CMOS first? In retrospect this seems obvious (assuming the answer is yes) but I didn't really think much and just put the cpu in with all the overclocked settings from my 920 at 4Ghz. The mobo is Gigabyte x58 UD5 Should the PC have booted? Any answers or helpful oversight welcome.

It is usually best to clear old BIOS settings before putting in a new CPU. Unless your voltage settings were crazy, it is doubtful you hosed your chip or board, though.

Also you might wanna try updating your bios to the very newest version as older versions may not support Xeons.

You have to clear bios, then if CPU is good it should boot.
