So i'm looking at TVs yesterday and I see this one for 1799 at best buy

Samsung HL-P5063W

And I began to wonder, that is about 40% off of MSRP. Should I buy this TV because it is on clearance/open box (can't remember which one)? Is it the invoice price that best buy has it listed at? They wouldn't budge at the price (offered a 99 dollar store credit card thing with it after enough badgering).

Any ideas? Is this a good price?

edit - I'm also planning on using this to run my computer off of when I play games. I will have this in the living room with a wire that runs to it with the video signal (~50 ft). Will I see any signal reduction because of this?

Update

Ok, I got the TV for 1529.99 total. I decided to opt for the service plan (4 years labor and parts). I did find out that the TV was only put on display 1 week ago, so the life of the bulb is still pretty high. He told me that the bulbs cost about 300 bucks, the service plan cost 400 and can be refunded within 30 days.

Bottom line, do you think I should refund the service plan and get my 399 back?

the reason this model is so cheap is because the new HLR models came out a couple weeks ago, so this tv is one generation behind and they are clearancing them out. another thing to be wary of is that these dlp tvs use a bulb and the bulb only has a limited life on it (a certain thousand number of hours). if this tv has been on all day at a store for who knows how long, the life of the bulb may already be reaching its end. if you do buy this open box item, don't forget to use the best buy open box coupon (can be found on bestbuy.com) that gives you an extra 15% off the open box price.

trust me ... that tv is LOVELY!

i love mine and wouldn't trade the world for it :)

and if you are still wondering, anything that is open box or a return can be haggled down to as low as they will go. i used to work at BB and know this for a fact.

EDIT: if you get it and want a matching stand, let me know ... i can find the exact model #. This is mine.. it isn't the official samsung one but it matches PERFECTLY to the TV,and its $200 less than the samsung one.

EDIT #2: and i paid $2600 for mine last november. thats like $800 less than me 7 months later, not bad at all dude. and as much as i hate the PSP plans, i would recommend it as long as it covers the replacement of the bulb in the set. i got mine from CC though because i hate BB.

That's a good price on a high quality set with great connectivity (something my parents' JVC D-ILA sorely lacks).

Thanks for the info guys!

Hmm, so with this open box item, does anyone recommend I purchase the PSP plan if it covers the replacement of the bulb? How high should I go before I say, no thanks, i don't need it?

i'll send you the link to the stand tomorrow, i picked it up at sears. i'm in the middle of a bbq right now and had to come to my computer to burn a music cd.

DEFINITELY tell them that you will get the service plan, however make them lower the price. just tell em that if they lower it $100 you will get the 4 year service plan or something. The one at CC covers bulb replacement, so I would assume for competition purposes that best buy would as well.
