Dont know if this is at all Office Depot's, but the one in the University Village, Seattle WA is having a clearance of all Imation CD-R's, these are good to 12x and are $19.99 for each 50 x 700mb spindle. I looked these up at CD Media World and they are supposed to be Taiyo Yuden meaning GOOD quality CD's too. I haven't unwrapped it yet in case I might want to exchange them for my usual Maxell's. Can anyone confirm or deny the quality of these CD's? Need them to LAST. Seems to be a DAMN good deal :)

Hey vagabum, I bought the same spindle of 50 Imations at a local Officemax on 2/12 for $14.95. These are supposed to be very high quality CDs. I got a GREAT deal last november at OD. The deal was that you buy a 50 CD spindle of Office Depot brand CDs for $19.99 and receive a $20 rebate. Sounds great right? Well, it's now almost 3 months later and I have no rebate check and almost half of the first 30 CDs I used ended up being coasters! I was told by an OD tech rep that the CDs were made by Imation but later found that they were manufactured for OD by PNY. I have made a few mistakes with buying CDs but one thing I learned is get the best you can for the best price WITHOUT having to use a rebate. I hope this helps ...

Update : couldn't stand it any longer (yes I'm impatient) and opened them up. Bad news, these are the crap Imations. I popped them into CDR Identifier and they showed up as :

ATIP: 97m 26s 66f
Disc Manufacturer: CMC Magnetics Corp.
Reflective layer: Dye (Short strategy; e.g. Phtalocyanine)
Media type: CD-Recordable
Recording Speeds: min. unknown - max. unknown
nominal Capacity: 702.83MB (79m 59s 74f / LBA: 359849)

Imation makes good quality and bad quality according to CD Media World, the good ones are the 10 packs etc that come from the Taiyo Yuden factories, the spindles must come from CMC. One thing to note from the CDMW articles is to avoid Made in Taiwan CDR's *sigh* you get what you pay for I suppose, for anyone else still interested in taking these up. These CD's will last up to about a year, see the above post for their quality. Anyway, going to try and return them now :p

I use imations almost exclusively...............they are free most of the time. I have never had a coaster on my plextor/imation disc combo that wasnt my fault.

I've had bad luck with imation cd-rs...for instance my friends cd-rw drive will burn them, but can't read them afterwords...and his cd-rw drive works fine with every other brand I've tried. also the few imation cd-rs I still have, don't work in my brother's aiwa stereo

You guys are going to have to start using boxes of CDRs as furniture. I think they are cheaper than floppys now. You know you're hot deal junkie when you pick up a 1000 CDRs because they are on sale, or free for that matter. Just don't try to give them to your girlfriend as a birthday present. Well, maybe if she's a fellow anandtecher, but then she probably has a few cases of her own.

quick2, maybe it's your cd burner that's the problem and not the cd's? I haven't had any problems with the CMC Imation cd's I bought last October at this exact same price from OD.
