Clear channel Radio. Do they only have like 5 CDs in their radio station? What gives with this stupid company

It seems like this stupid station has like 5 different songs to choose from. All I friggin hear is like 4 or 5 different 50 Cent songs, JT Money, Kelly Clarkson, Beyonce, Christina, "shake ya tailfeather song" and that friggin 'Right Thurr' song. Listen for an hour, and I guarantee all of these songs will be played. Maybe more than once. Some of the lyrics are so dumb too. EX: Right thurr -- Gave her 300 to strip, like buying a throwback,
she stay in the club,like to be seen,
she got it honest, In real life girl remind me of Pocahontas. P. Diddy --
Mama I like how you dance
The way you fit in them pants (Uh)

Yep, my local station is the same way. They are always having problems with dead-air time (nothing plays, just silence) - I like calling them up and asking them if their stream from clearchannel was lost

Last november when the tornados rolled through NW ohio, the clear channel (voicetracked) stations had nothing about them on the radio, save for the NWS warning signal a couple of times. If you missed that, you'd have had no idea what was going on if you didn't look outside.

I bought a 10 CD changer for my car. Best $100 I've spent in some time. When I installed my head unit in my new truck, the antenna wire was different and required an adapter (I didn't have), I was going to just say
'Fudge it' and not hook it up but I decided to hook it up just in case I wanted to check traffic or something.

Heh. I just did a search through their website. Apparently, none of the stations I listen to are run by them, but ALL of the ones that my sis listens too are. I'm gonna rub this in on her later... :evil:

I have the same complaints with the 80's station in Houston. Ofcourse it's also owned by Clear Channel. Why does an 80's station have to keep repeating the same 20 songs? Were there no other hits during that whole decade?

Around here we have Next Media and Lotus Radio. Both seem to be pretty good, they let the DJs play some random/underground stuff but only at certain times of day. Good selection otherwise, at least on the Rock/Alternative stations here.

that was the only station i could get clearly in my car until the am and fm died on my sony head unit. i recommend not listening because it kill the radio on my car.

Well it's fairly complicated, but "Payola" has a lot to do with it. Basically, the playlist is determined by how much a record company (or its representatives) pay for each artist. The songs you hear the most on Clear Channel radio stations are not played so often because of their musical merit. It's because some very large corporation with deep pockets paid out the yin-yang for them to be played as often as they are. DJs actually used to lend their own musical tastes to a radio station's rotation, but those days are mostly gone. The playlist is premanufactured at the corporate level and DJs reduced to mere "personalities" who deliver entertainment news and traffic updates.

But the extremely sad thing is that it works. People, it seems, love to be told what they should like... and that goes not only for music but for pretty much any product. Be glad you can recognize the spoonfeeding. The only thing you can do is not subject yourself to it.
