Clear BRA New Mini Cooper S

Hi everyone,

About 2 months ago I ordered a Mini Cooper S and its finally here! (Pictures soon to come!) I want to add stuff to it now.. I'm thinking about a clearbra. Does anyone have any experience with those?

I have a friend who had one put on his Mercedes convertible. It seems to have held up, but I'm not sure how much he actually drives that one.

Oh yah. We need pics though. Both of you and your ride will be nice.

Edit - Just to answer your question. My infiniti came with a clear bra (extra option from the dealer). It does actually help against small rocks and debris that can hit the front of the car.

I dont any personal experience but have heard that they will turn yellow with age. Also if you remove it after a few years there's a chance the paint under the bra has not faded as badly as the rest so you'll see a darker shade of color than the rest of the car.

Clear bras help a LOT with rock chips and things.

Custom cut ones look a LOT LOT better than the pre-cut "kits". Custom cut ones can be run full panel size and the edges are wrapped over, so you don't see any lines at all. If you go custom, it's EXTREMELY important to get it from a good installer though, or they can damage your paint with the razor blade.

In my experience, 3M's Aerospace film is the best. It's the most clear and has the least orange-peel effect. Venture film is behind this, but still good. Neither of these two change colors with age.

Far behind these two is 3M's automotive film, which is sold under many other brands. This will eventually yellow with age, and has noticable orange peel.

From my experience, don't put one on if your car is white. The bra will yellow overtime and it's very noticeable on a white car.

The two MINIs I had both had very soft paint and were nicked up pretty badly within a year.

wiz, so do you think its a good idea or not? and what year minis did you have?

2004 and 2005.

Yes, it's a good idea if you plan on keeping it.

Only an issue with crappy film.

The body shop I'm taking my car to also has a spray-on type of thing so you don't have to worry about it fitting the car. It has the same abrasion resistance as the 3M film.

I got my film from this place which uses 3M.

3M's automotive film SUCKS. It's thin, it has an orange peel texture, and it yellows. Their automotive film has gotten a little better in the last couple years, but it's still a far FAR cry from 3M aerospace film and Venture Film.
