Cleaning up bottom of shelf set-up

Just got this set up active, will get covers for the cables going into the shelf, but below the shelf is where I want to clean it up a bit since it's pretty cluttered especially with the coaxial cables sticking every which way.

Other than a subwoofer, which I'm considering..anyone else know of a way to clean up/hide that clutter?

Might help to rotate the photo. As far as cable management down there you could built a box/shield of wood or metal around it.

Did you rip that toggle bolt out to reuse it?

Nah I just left it in there, whenever I move out I'll figure it out 🙂

Any examples of a box/shield? I do want to get a subwoofer but since it's a condo building my downstairs neighbors may not be terribly happy with it.

My thinking was go to Homedepot/Lowes and buy a thin gauge piece of sheet metal, something like 6-10" x 24", 22-28ga. Bend it along the long edge to form a 3 sided "box" to fit over the connectors, with the solid sides to the left, right, and front of the outlet. It will probably be steel grey so paint it to taste and then figure out a way to attach it under the shelf and over the outlet/plugs.

Another thought occurred to me as well, don't laugh. Go to Walmart/Target/local craft shop and buy a wicker or plastic waste basket, any color, that is at or right below the shelf height. Then either cut out a section of the back, the entire back, or cut it in half vertically so that the it sits right up against the wall under the shelf with the plugs "hidden" in it. I can't tell how high the shelf is so this idea might not be feasible.

If you can't find a waste basket the right height you could buy a 12" diameter sonotube. Cut it to height, cut it in half lengthwise, paint it and use it as a faux column under the shelf to hide the stuff.

Sort of the same as above.

Put a power strip in the basket (with cover) move everything in there. Maybe a 90 degree F-connector so the coax shoots straight down too.

If you have a "Michael's" around you, they have cheap wicker baskets.

If it was my place and I had that kind of space to work with for one I wouldn't have forced a wall mount. I would have got one of those stands with the arm on the back and some shelves and called it a day.

Since the damage is done and you have this to work with, I'd tear out that chintzy little shelf you currently have. Then I'd get a couple nice brackets and some deep enough shelving to hold the equipment. Two rows high would probably work.

Run the cables under one of the shelves and hide it with a cable track, run it up the wall behind the shelves with more tracking and then put some knick knack shit on the shelves to take up space and hide the mess.

power moved to floor level and zip ties for the rest
or
move all the boxes to somewhere else and just have the power and hdmi cable going to the tv.
