Still my favorite trick, which I heard around this forum I think - Rubber Cement. It contains hexane, a solvent which cuts through Arctic Silver quite nicely. Just do a preliminary wipe with a clean rag to get most of it. Then smear on some rubber cement and let it dry. Once it's dry, you just start peeling off the cement into a little ball which picks up all the remnants of AS that it touches.

i've used nail polish remover and a q-tip, it works great!

the nail polish remover is very mild and the q-tip helps a lot for those little cracks

The active ingredient in nail polish remover is acetone. That works. A clean cloth around your finger dipped in 99% pure isopropyl alchohol will also work.

Pure acetone is very good, and highly volatile. It vanishes quickly from the CPU, without leaving a trace. Common drugstore acetone, though, is sometimes mixed with ethanol, and not so much volatile, but still works.
