Claim the unit shorted out on your insurance.

Why commit insurance fraud when the loss is already covered? Yep, the contents of your refrigerator are covered in the event of a power loss.

Immoral and stupid usually go together though I guess...

Only if the power outage occurs on the insured premises. You must have damage to power line located on your property. Blanket outage in the area not covered.

Take it outside, if possible, and hose it out. Use whatever cleaning products suit your fancy.

After Katrina, I tried soap, bleach, various cleaners, vanilla, and baking soda. I swear charcoal briquettes worked the best to remove the odor. The smell won't go away over night. It took a week or two IIRC.

Be sure to check if your fridge's freezer has a bottom pan. I had to remove the bottom pan/liner to clean under it.
