Cleaning soda off sneakers?

So last night involved some drunken debauchery which led to a whole glass of vodka and root beer getting spilled on my brand new Puma sneakers. I'm not happy about it but it was a fun night.

The sneakers are still a bit wet this morning. Does anyone have experience/advice on cleaning sneakers? Usually I don't care as much but these are nice and new.

The sugar will dissolve in warm water. Washing with warm wet sponge (no soap) should be enough.

yeah just go with warm water and a rag to start, that might get a good bit of it. it really doesnt look too bad.

if that doesnt do it all, you can try a store bought stain remover or a good dry cleaner. for a stain remover, id apply a little of the agent to a damp rag so that it isnt too strong, then tamp that over the stain, maybe let it sit a few minutes, and then try a clean rag that only has water on it again to see if the stain and chemical residue will come off.

i got some sneaker cleaner from footlocker ... that shit works wonders. it made my shoes look brand new after a day of tailgating last year.

Toss them in the wash?

When my or my kids' shoes (leather and/or cloth) get to that point, I throw them in the wash (I remove my kids' shoes' insoles first). They come out clean and in one piece.

Use a little bit of soap, cold or warm (not hot) water and the gentle or hand wash cycle.

Thanks for the replies. Warm water and a cloth did the trick. Whew, dodged a bullet on that one.
