cleaning question

One of my out of town friends came over to visit last night. We went out, proceeded to get hammered. We come back to my place, and there is a stocked fridge, which we do a little damage to. My friend goes to my room, saying he has to get something out of his bag. 15 minutes later, he hasnt come back down. I go upstairs, and he is passed out in my bed. Thats fine, we have a really comfortable futon in my living room, so I go crash there. In the morning, I find out my friend puked, all over my bed. My mattress smells like stale beer and bile, which is not going to help me sleep.

So, how do I get that smell out? I've soaked up as much of it as I can, and I dont want to smell this every night when I go to bed.

If the puke has been sitting on the mattress for hours, I don't know if you can get the smell out

Oh, its been there for quit a while, he must have done it early in the night

I'm going to see if I can soak any more out of it, then DUMP some Febreeze all over it

Honestly you may need a new matress - kind of like how urine stains just won't come out. Tell your friend he can keep this one but you want a new one.

That's just sick, if my friend did that he would be buying me a new mattress.

That would be the ideal option, but he doesnt have $200 sitting around

Oh well in a few weeks it should die down a bit 🙂

Well, I could always flip it over after febreezing it like a mother****er

They sell stuff at some pet stores for that kind of 'stain', (feces, urine, vomit etc.), but you'd need to saturate it and then let it really dry out, can you get it outside/in sun?

I think you can also buy some kind of plastic or vinyl cover and encapsulate it, like people do for allergies.

clean the mattress as best you can,use hot water! drag mattress outside to dry in the sun. Put mattress back on bed then put on a plastic mattress cover before puttiong on clean sheets.

Like Spac3d said, its fairly cool here in Columbus... would a blow dryer work, or would it screw up the mattress?

Can't you rent one of those professional steam cleaning machines?

They inject HOT WATER AND CLEANING SOLUTION into the mattress then suck it right back out.

I had the same thing happen to me on February 1st. There was a huge vomit stain on my carpet. I used baking soda to keep the smell down until I got some decent cleaning solution. Vinegar helped a LOT. This was on carpet without padding underneath though so I'm not sure if you can do it with a mattress. My mom works at a carpet store and she sent me this stuff they used called 'ACT One Step Stain and Odor Remover' and that was the finishing touch. It got all the smell out and it's just barely visible on the carpet.

When I was scouring the net trying to find how to fix it (as I'm sure you are), they always said to go to a pet store and get something that has ingredients to break down bacteria and all of that good stuff.

Good luck on getting it out!

Nah. You'll get the smells out. I've puked all over my mattress loads of times. It smells fine.

WTF? You need to relax on the drinking or pace yourself, or something.

With all the liquor he had that night, the bacteria might not be such a problem 😉
