Cleaning out the the Hard Drive

Well, i figure its about time to do some cleaning to the hard drive. I figure i have two option:
1. Brother is coming into town so have him save the stuff i want to a seperate hard drive, then format the maxtor, then do a fresh install of windows and all my drivers for all my hardware, and finally copy the other stuff back onto the drive.
2. Or download some driver and dll cleaners, unistall all my drivers, run the driver cleaner and dll cleaner, and then reinstall everything.
I figure just do the whole hard drive format and back up the stuff i want and do a fresh install of everything else. What is yalls take on this?
 
Option 1 sounds better, however, what you said about your second option is not clear. At first it sounds as though you are simply "refurbishing" the OS, and then it sounds as though you are going to start from scratch. You would not find it simple to remove all drivers, because alot of them are native to the OS. Backup essential files, do a clean install of the OS, install updates, and then install your programs. When finished, restore your essential files that you backed up.
 
Option two i was talking about using something like Driver Cleaner Pro 3.3 to clean out the old fragments of drivers and something like clean disk directory 1.7 to gather some of those miscellanious dll files that are just left there. Thats was all i was talking about. I'm feeling option one myself.
