Cleaning out a Mini USB slot

I accidentally got some dirt and maybe even a bit of rust into the mini USB port on my phone and because of that, I can no longer charge the battery. Does anyone have any advice for how to clean this tiny slot without damaging the phone? Would rubbing alcohol be ok?

I would try dripping some 91% isopropyl alcohol in the socket, waiting a minute or so then blowing the socket out with canned air.

Or use a Q-Tip in rubbing alcohol to clean it. It will air dry in a few minutes and should work. Worst case use some spray contact cleaner and then run carefully with the Q-Tip to take the dirt off.

Q-Tips are very soft and will usually fit .. or if need be, a piece of cotton on a sewing needle will do it.

Update: I was able to clean it out with a piece of paper towel and some rubbing alcohol. Thanks for the help folks.
