A new tea kettle.
A new coffee maker (DeLongi Alicia).

Both nice, except that enything coming out them has a greasy, rusty smell, and tastes like crap.

Anyone have advice for cleaning them? The tea kettle is closed on top, so I can't do any scrubbing in it, but the Alicia I can take apart and do all but soak it (I might be able to soak it, even, but it does have electronics in the base, so I won't risk it).

I've tried dish soap, I've tried orange clean, I've tried running dozens and dozens of batches of water through them (they're both basically boilers), and to little avail.

vinegar...fill the coffee maker and add vinegar,... run it thru.,.. do it again, then run clean water...

soak the kettle in water and vinegar... then wash...

you can also use lemon juice, but vinegar seems to work better for some reason.

maybe use them to make some hot water and then put some lemon juice in them and keep the water boiling?

i'd say the last resort is bleach but then you'll have to rinse them VERY VERY carefully for a long time to use them afterwards.

if everything fails, ebay.
