I need to replace the fan on my Geforce2 (making mad noise) so now that I have the old fan off, how do I clean the hard glue off of the chip? Any ideas?

I use Acetone better know as Nail polish remover. It soften it up then I take a blade to it. Then I clean it again with acetone then with alcohol before I put on the heatsink.

I tried using WD40 to soften the glue and then use a pen knife to scratch off the glue. Like wj I used alcohol to clean off the WD40 before I put the new fan on.

I used nail polish remover, and it worked perfectly. Just keep rubbing, it all will eventually come off.

But, the damn Blorb that I got doesn't work. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

JayPatel yes WD40 do leave a greasy residue if you just leave it. But I found that the alcohol can clean off the WD40 completely and it's not greasy to the touch anymore. Of course I tried that first on an old heatsink firstbefore I actually used it on my Geforce.

Yes, I am sending the broken blorb back and getting a new one. The place where I bought it from (Inflow Direct) has serious restrictions on anything else (20% restocking fee, product can't be opened, etc.) like exchange or refund. Otherwise I'd definitely be going with a globalwin chip cooler or something.

I found a generic nail polish remover called "100% acetone" simple name but it is exactly what you want no perfumes or oils. Then JIC I cleaned that with alcohol and "buffed" with a fine *nail tool ...*foam block things with different grits on the sides like 600 to 2000paper coarse to finest. I had some trouble with the Blorb's pins lineing up and went with Artic Adheasive,I feel much more secure now. Anyway it looks cooler than it performs sofar but I may have done some of my first tests a bit early. Blobs + Voodoo5500 I want to borrow a digital therm from work before I push it see how it OC's. I figure hey I loose support in Feb. why not have fun w/it.;)
