i have this keyboard that i have had since 98 so it has gotten a little dirty.. today i decided to clean it.. since my wife has started getting on my case about it.. so i clean it, carefully pull off every key and clean each individual key... on putting it back together does it work.
no it doesn't...

so i take it apart and find that moisture had gotten inside of it.. i cleaned it more and dried off the insides and put it togther.. currently i'm typing on it.. but a couple of keys don't work right. [shift, and the 2 on the number pad] . so i will take it apart in a little bit and dry it off somemore.. or just give it some time... i do have pics of the whole process.. beggining to end. if someone has asight to put them on...

anyway......... it is working.. mostly.. ;]

did i mention it looks brand new now

You could have jsut thrown the whole thing in the dishwasher by itself. It cleans and dries for you.

Damn, i had no idea a dishwasher would work for cleaning keyboards. I always thought a rag with rubbing alcohol would do the trick for the outer keys, and compressed hair would blow out any crap inside.

well, there is a member here at AT that actually cleans off his cpu under the faucet. so i wouldnt discount the idea of cleaning a keyboard in the dishwasher. but, like people have said, make sure it is DRY.

Mine are sticky I put my keyboard in the dishwasher and they worked perfectly for like 24 hours now they are sticky again not nearly as bad as before but still enough to irritate me I will put it in the washer again

YES!! My shift buttons and everything is now working!! COOL! after seeing what I have found inside of my keyboard there is no way I would put it in the washer... but more power to ya..... I also learned that on my microsoft what are they called natural keyboard or something? that if you take off the back you can actually snap out the section with all the keys on it. which if I would have taken the time to figure that out before I did all this, It would have been WAY easier......

but i'm happy cause it's working !YAAAAAAA!
