Cleaning Ink from Printer

My HP DeskJet 970 spewed ink all over itself a few days ago. I have since bought a HP LaserJet 1012 to replace it, but I'd hate to just through out the DeskJet (since replacing the cartridges replaces the print head and hopefully the defect). The problem is: How do I get all of the ink off of the printer? Some of its dry, some isn't. Any suggestions?

I've had luck cleaning computer parts with this aerosole spray I got from office max. BTW, sell the printer to me

the ink is water soluble so I would use just water or a light soap and water solution (a drop of dawn in a bowl of water). Finish with pure water and wipe dry.
