My equipment STINKS terribly right now. The summer season filled the pads up with vomit inducing nastiness I can't describe in words other than those. Does anyone have any fool proof ways to get them smelling at least a bit nicer? In the past I've tried putting them in the washing machine, but all that does is get them wet, which they've already spent most of the summer being.

Sincerely,
Smelly Jim

Try to find a hockey shop or rink with a professional equipment cleaner :) $40 cdn for a full set of equipment washed and dried :) THere is also Ozone cleaning but it is harder on your equipment and can't be used that often.

I was hoping for an at home solution, like fabreeze or some crap. I guess maybe I'll just keep airing them out on my balcony and making my neighbors yack. hehe

nah......... just leave you sweaty equipment in your car trunk for a couple weeks :)

Do you have a hockey tree? If not get one.......... best way to air out your equipment.

I just air mine out...the smell fades. I used to spray some peach smelling stuff on my equipment I think that helped since I even got compliments on the ice :)

try soaking them in some really hot water and strong detergent and scrub it. Then leave in direct sunlight outside for a day or two. It gets out a lot of the stank for free.

I bought a spray from a hockey store and it works great. It has Canadian maple leafs all over it so it might be a Canadian only product. It's not a big brand name, but it works. I forgot what's called, I'll have to check.

I could probably make a hockey tree easy enough... sounds like a good idea.

I always cleaned my gear by filling up the bathtub, adding detergent and a cup or so of Pine Sol, let the gear soak for a couple hours, rinse really well and then hang it outside to air dry. The Pine Sole will kill that funky smell.

Haha same here. A friend of mine would shove the opening on his smelly gloves in the other team members faces (also friends) to throw them off. :D

Fabreze is popular with players... but THIS is the real deal. You spray this on your equipment after every game and it WILL NOT smell. It doesn't just mask the odor either...

Good stuff... I swear by it.

Grab the gallon refill while you're at it... cause shipping an order is $7.99.

EDIT>>> I just found this page so you can find retail locations to avoid the shipping charge.
