Cleaning HD for PC donation

I have an old PC (.8 GB HD) that I'm going to donate. If I run Mcafee DiskTune (=Mcafee Utilities =1) Defrag + 2) zero in the free spaces (blank) areas using the same program), then use the 3) recovery CD to reset to factory conditions, would the data be recoverable by a smart person like we have here (not incl myself in this group!)?

I ask bc I used to use this PC for Quicken, Excel and Turbo Tax documents and don't want to risk them being recovered. Mcafee comes with File shredder but I don't think that does a clean sweep of the HD.

Thanks

I really doubt anyone would target a 800 meg HDD in a donated PC to try and recover data from to use for fun and profit.

If you wanted to steal data you would work at a job repairing computers.

I think Norton has a utility that comes with a HD wiping utility. It has the option to do something like a gov't wipe, which will write 0's to the drive, then write 1's, then write 0's again. You can set it up to repeat this as many times as you wish.
