Cleaning exterior plastic on a car.

Anyone have any good tips on cleaning the exterior plastic on cars? I have some residue which I think is wax that's on the exterior plastic pieces of my car and would like to clean it off and apply a protectant. Any good suggestions? Is soap and water and a toothbrush the best thing?

I always use isopropyl alcohol to remove residue. It's fairly effective for miscellaneous "gunk" (especially sticker residue) and it evaporates quickly. It's safe to use on plastic. Get a spray bottle with isopropyl alcohol (pharmacies usually carry them) and gently wipe with a paper towel after each spray.

I tried different things, but usually I actually apply a coat of cleaner wax to them and then hand buff it off. Works well enough so far, takes the oxidation off nicely.

Oh wait, you meant the black trimming? Then use something else, usually I use the same Amorall stuff for interior plastic.

Ah, that looks perfect man! Thanks.

When in doubt about these products, ask at any auto body supply shop or any auto body repair shop. They will tell you what they use, what works and what to avoid.
