Cleaning corroded and slightly rusted RAM and GPU contacts

I have several old DDR3 memory modules and a GTX 680 that has slightly rusted contacts and few of the rams sticks has corroded contacts

Is it ok to use 2000c grit sandpapers to scrub them of ? i don't think the local shop are selling anything much finer than that...

btw.. already tried on one of the modules.. took a while to get those thing off.. maybe 2000c was too smooth /fine , anyway since it's working now.. any side effects on the long run ?

I use a pencil eraser for stuff like that. I've never had to go to anything more aggressive.

Those contacts generally aren't made of metal that rusts, though.

The metal layer is also thin, so you have to be careful.
