I was wondering how to clean a monitor screen properly without scratching or rubbing any of the no glare coating off.

clean, lint-free cloth. don't use windex if it's a trinitron (or any newer monitor for that matter)

dampen the cloth with a little water for hard-to-remove stuff.

thanks. i kinda figured it wasn't anything fancy but i didn't want to run the risk of messing up my new monitor.

i actually use a light feather duster to remove the normal dusty build-up..and maybe every couple months i use the rag approach. works for me!

There are a couple of great products out there as well. I use Drummond American "opthalene" mini-max double concentrate. It is an aerosol spray that foams on the monitor. You apply it and then buff it off with a lint-free cloth. You can actually see the difference it makes. It fills the microscopic voids, reduces glare and adds a protective coating against oily smudges. It is NOT for use with LCD's though. It works great on my Dell Trinitron and it was worth the investment ($15.00/5oz can at local electronics store.)

I wouldn't use ordinary water for that... it seems to have a lot of
junk in it that settles on the glass.

that's true. let me rephrase.

use the damp cloth to remove really dirty stuff, then you must go over the entire thing with the dry cloth again. it's kind of like cleaning windows with windex...i find that if you clean with the windex cloth, then go over the entire window again with an absolutely dry paper towel, they come out better.
