Hello all...

First of all, let me say that I am by no means a computer expert...

A buddy from work was telling me his wife was having some major issues with her pc..... He knows NOTHING about them, and was wondering if I could come over and take a look.... To make a long story short, it was obvious her pc was mess (teenage child - KAZAA, ETC).

So I bring the PC, a fairly new Dell, to my house ( I have cable, they are on dial-up) and download to a CD Spyware Blaster 3.2, Ad-Aware SE, and Anti Vir Personal Edition AV software (all from majorgeeks.com) and load them on their pc.... Enabled and updated Spyware Blaster, Installed Ad-Aware SE (715 critical object detected..... After running and restarting pc a few time, all objects were removed), and then installed the AV software.... It detected over 70 corrupt files, all of which were deleted..... All in all, A REAL MESS!

After getting it to where I felt it should be okay, I hooked my phone line to it, and it connected and run fine...... Windows XP was automatically updating, but after about one hour it was only about 20% so I shut it down, took it back to him, and told his wife to let it finish updating.

She called me a bit ago, and was online trying to order some uniforms (she's a RN) and after picking out all items she wants to purchase, when trying to "submit" the order, she gets an error page, something real similar to, "access restricted, this site has been blocked, etc!" This some problem has occured on two seperate sites, and I basically have no clue why....

Privacy settings are set to medium, under advanced internet options tab, I had her restore defaults, and still the same thing.....

I run spyware blaster 3.2, and Ad-Aware on my pc, and have never had this problem, so I assume neither of these programs are interferring..... I do not believe the AV software would cause these issues, so my only guess is that MSN automatic updates needs to finish installing (was a tad over 20% when I spoke to her), or could the AV possibly have deleted a possibly corrupt file that is needed to shop from secured sites?

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!!! As I said, I am no expert, but I try my best to keep my pc protected, and thought I had done the same for theirs.... I am at a loss......

Could you post a screenshot of the exact window? I am pretty sure that this has something to do with IE security zones. The MSN Auto updates shouldn't affect this in the least. Try disabling different things and see if that helps. If the site has been blocked, muck around with the Content Advisor, Restricted Zones, and Hosts files (doubt the last 2).

A quick way to check if it is IE security would be to try a different web browser. I am sure there are many people here who could suggest one or two alternatives to IE : )

With 715 critical objects detected by AdAware, Im surprised the PC is even running. In the many systems I have worked in with this level of Spyware/etc, reformat seems the only solution.
