Clean XP pro install, now no internet

Did a clean install on my sister's laptop of Win XP pro. Everything went smoothly.

But I can't get on the internet. Seems like XP does not recognize the ethernet card or the wireless card.

Any ideas?
 
You need to install the network drivers in XP to get networking on most motherboards. You either need to download the drivers or search for the driver cd that came with the computer/motherboard.

Not an option to have the CDs that came with the computer. I don't think my sister has any of the orginal cds. Sisters computer was a Dell and had some major software issues. Sister had a pirate copy of XP on there before. I bought XP to put on her computer to be legal.

So I guess I need to try to figure out what networking drivers I need and what hardware is in the computer.

Try looking on Dell's website and see if they have them posted for that model.
 
Next time, before removing an OS from a PC (especially a laptop), print out the Device Manager list of every major hardware device. It makes it lots easier to find drivers.

Also, if you call and ask nicely, Dell will likely send a Drivers CD and an Install CD of the original OS for that laptop, whatever that was.
 
Dell's support site needs the Service tag from the laptop, and you will be able to download all the drivers you need. (From another system of course).
