Clean XP Pro install from Hard Drive?

Can XP Pro be installed from a hard drive? If so, can someone point me in the right direction.

For my win 98 install, I just copied all the files from the WIN98 directory onto my hard drive and installed from there. Anything like that for XP Pro?

Thanks

Copy i386 to a folder on your drive then run winnt.exe.

It is just as easy to boot to the CD and install that way.

Thanks.

The reason I installed 98 from the HD was to avoid having to find the CD everytime windoze needed to install a driver. I'd like to accomplish the same thing with XP and I was hoping that installing from the HD would be the answer.

Windows copies the driver.cab file over as part of install, so it shouldn't normally ask for the cd again.

It will. Good thought process, and the correct solution.

uhm , installing rom the harddrive is the hard way... just install from CD, copy over the win98 (or i386) folder and then point the registry in the right direction... easiest way is to search for d:\win98 (or wherever it was originally from) and change that to c:\win98 (or whatever you wish)... takes about 3 minutes to search and change paths, 1 minutes to copy...
