I have read somewhere to use a wet sponge and drag it across the tip of the iron.

lol... not quite :)

At work today I noticed that on the small radio I was using (borrowed from boss to use while I'm in the back), the right speaker wasn't working.

I took it apart to see if a speaker wirehad come loose. No such luck.

Being the curious guy I am, I decided to take the screws out of the PCB to check if the speaker wire had maybe come right off the board. It didnt.

I also managed to screw up the radio tuner, and since this is an old radio, the dial worked on a pully system.

I finally got the thing all back together when I realized I accudentally ripped off a power wire, so I went to radio shack 30 minutes ago and bought a 15/30W iron and a little solder.

Everything is working fine now :)

after a while, i just used sand paper and remove the top layer of grime, and tin. down to the copper.

then i use some liquid flux, and cover the tip.

then i turn on the iron and when it's hot enuf, i retin. i use a damp paper towel to clean it off. i tap off excess solder. oh, i use the thickest solder i can get for tinning.

if i have to, i reshape the tip with my dremel (sanding drum).
