Clean install WinXP home on laptap

I have a Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop that was running extremely slow esp in IE. Checked with Norton anti-virus, Adaware and Spybot to no avail. I decided to reformate and reinstall WinXP home SP2. I set it to boot from the CD, insert the installation CD and get to the set up window. When I get to the option of where to install, I first wanted to delete the existing C: partion to get rid of all the junk that has accumulated. The installer won't let me do this as it has copied "set up files" to the C: drive. How can I get around this?

Thanks for any advice.

Ahhh... nevermind! Turns out I was not actually booting from the CD. Once I got that straightened out, its formatting away!
