clean install of windows?

I would like to install a clean install of windows xp on an old machine, and then use i as a rendering node. How can I do this if I only have one hard drive? Can I partition off the data that is already there and then cleanly install it in the remaining space?
 
If there is enough free space on the drive you can partition it off and copy the data you want to keep into the new partition.

I would probably just take the drive out and put it in another pc. copy the data, then format the entire drive.
