I just recently started monitoring my system temps (I'm running an Athlon 2500+ OC'd to 2.2ghz) and was seeing some fairly high CPU temps - 50-60C at idle and up to 70C after playing games for a while. I was about to order some new fans, since the ones I've got in the case right now are nothing special, when I noticed the ridiculous amount of dust that had collected in the case. I knew it was about time for a good cleaning, but I didn't think it'd have a huge effect on the CPU temp, maybe a few degrees.

I guess I was wrong. After taking everything apart and getting all the dust out with some compressed air and an old toothbrush my idle temp went down to about 40C and after playing UT2004 or BF:Vietnam for a few hours it will max out in the mid-high 50C range. Needless to say, I was pretty surprised.

I just lowered my temps from 48c at load down to around 43c at load on my older system after giving it a thorough cleaning with my air compressor. I couldn't believe how much dust had collected around in there! I blasted dust out of it for a good 5 minutes or so.

I just went from 69 load to 59 load by cleaning the heatsink and front intake filter. I also learnt that my NB fan has stopped, might have to replace that and probably get some TIM and re-do the heatsink, see it that helps some.
