"Clean filter" message on home central AC thermostat?

My new place has a digital thermostat, and it currently says "clean filter"
We just put a new filter in, but that message is still there. Do we have to reset it or can it tell some how?

I doubt it can "tell", probably just a time-based thing. Maybe call the company and ask, or google for a manual.

You have to manually reset it. My 'stat has a dedicated button to reset the indicator.

yeah its on a timer (ie 200hrs of operation time..)

Except not really 200 hours because that would be a little over 8 days.

how often is your air or furnace on for 8 days continually though
