So microfiber cloths and cleaning kits are not foolproof. I've seen them scratch screens. Are there any products out that are guaranteed to NOT scratch your screen. In particular I'm looking at a DS and a PSP, but all devices would benefit from this?

On a side note. I need to remove a particle of something that has adhered to a bare PSP screen (underneath the faceplate) that will NOT come off with compressed air. Anything guaranteed to not scratch that?

I don't have extensive product experience w/ cleaning kits, but I know that Clean Dr. kit has put microscratches on the devices I've used it on.

I need a guarantee for my OCD.

There are no guarantees in life. A stray bit of crud on a guaranteed "scratch proof" cloth will give you scratches. I use damp toilet paper, and wipe it dry with dry toilet paper. Never had a scratch.

Eh, pulp based products aren't really that good when it comes to scratches. A microfiber cloth is your best bet, but you hit the nail on the head with clean. It ain't the cloth that scratches, it's the crap embedded in the cloth.

You just have to be gentle. I've cleaned screens covered in dirt(not dust, but dirt) using toilet paper, and they come out fine. It takes a gentle hand. You aren't scrubbing toilets or anything, just delicate strokes, and for really dirty screens, change paper/sides often.

The testing idea is a good one. However, exluding the fact you pick up dirt from the optical disc.
On the toilet paper issue. You are probably using a different brand from the bark like stuff I use.
If anyone knows of cameras. Do people have to clean their 10,000$ telescopic uber lenses that put on their mega DSLR's? I'm sure those people have a system to not scratch lenses or mirrors.
However, I talked to a DSLR user who took a DSLR to get cleaned at a professional shop and he said that they never ever touch their surfaces. The max is a brush and air puffer.

Any kits you could recommend, or are you just wasting your time.
How do you get the dirt OUT of a microfiber/cloth? Washing machine? I somehow believe this isn't very foolproof.

Like a cotten cloth from? Target? Safeway? just any cloth?

All the above are great suggestions in my effort to clean screens.

Anybody have ideas on that bare PSP LCD screen I mentioned. Totally bare. I screw up.....its bad.

Trash can.

For something that absolutely must not be scratched, a brand new cloth is the only choice. They are like $2 for six in the automotive section of Walmart.

The key is wetness. You need to use cleaning solution. Go to your local Lenscrafters or Eyemasters or whatever and buy their spray.

Take a soft cotton tshirt, wet it with the cleaning spray, and touch the particle to try to pick it up. Don't wipe unless you need to, and if you must wipe make sure the cloth is well moistened.

Edit: BTW, cleaning a camera or telescope lens is different because those are glass. Nothing short of silica particles will scratch glass.
