ClawHammer's release date?

I've heard end of 2002, January 2003 and now March 2003.

It's all speculation at this point..but I have money right now, and I want to upgrade. I'm willing to wait if I can expect the CH's to be out this year...but how realistic is that? And when they'll be out they'll probably cost 200+ right? ; /

Last I heard, AMD was hoping for a January release... But I think end of Q1 is a more realistic timeframe of when they'll be readily available.

And yes, they will most definitely retail for more than $200. Probably closer to $400 (possibly even $500), if I had to make a guess. Imho, Hammer is AMD's chance to charge a premium, get their average selling prices up, and start posting some profits.

All my opinion, of course.

According to their latest conference call their aiming for a January release, as Wingz said. Their online roadmap still professes the old date of Q4 2002 though.

Personally, I'm expecting initial availability in the DIY market in late Q1 2003, probably around early March for uniprocessor 256KB L2 ClawHammer.
512KB DP ClawHammer I don't really expect to see until around mid-year 2003.

SledgeHammer will of course be quite a bit later then ClawHammer.

I'm guessing the proposed 3400+ top speed at release will run about $500-550, though of course this could be lower or even slightly higher depending upon competition from Intel and the market status at the time. AMD will push their new ClawHammer as high as they reasonably can to boost ASP's.
Supposedly it'll be available as low as 3000+ at release, and I'd figure a $270-330 price point initially. It'll probably come at a decent premium relative to AMD's top Barton processor at the time.

ack, so for someone like me that is working with a Canadian Dollar, getting a 2600XP @ around 200.00 is a better way to upgrade huh? ;P
