Clawhammer to be named the Athlon 64

According to Anand's COMDEX coverage for day 2, Clawhammer will be named Athlon XP 64 ... seems weird. Maybe it's just Athlon 64.

What I like is this:
The performance of the Athlon XP 64 at 1.4GHz was around the speed of a 2.2GHz Pentium 4 or Athlon XP 2200+, at least in the 3DMark tests we ran.

That's going to be sooo sweet....ClawHammer just sounds cooler than Athlon 64 though...

That sounds great, except for the fact that they'll probably have to get to at least 2GHz to have a competetive chip. IMO, it remains to be seen if they can pull it off. I wouldn't be suprised by a 1.8GHz launch.

(took quite a while to get all cheats....)

looks like amd wont give up "athlon" part of their name.....
still looks pretty nice nonetheless (but clawhammer does sound better)

Chiz

that consol had some good for it, to bad it wasnt cd based.

A mean lady stole my Nintendo 64 and all games.

And it's true ... I sold her and she gave a cold, no funds, stolen check. :|

You guys are forgetting what you will actually have to call it

"Athlon XP 64 3200+ @ 2.0 Ghz"

or whatever the rating will be.

Makes sense.. the "Athlon" has a decent amount of brand name recognition, with the "64" they can leverage it's X86-64 capabilities and hype them for all their worth to the consumer.
I'm willing to bet "64bit" will be a nice little marketing tag... their are an awful lot of people willing to believe 64bit equates to 2X the performance of 32bit.
