what's all the fuzz about anouncing their names, but NOT giving ANY specs nor release dates ?

We dont even know how big the L2 cache of a clawhammer will be, nor what's the difference between Opteron and Athlon XP, except that Opteron is a MP for servers/workstations ?

I want to have specs !!!!

L2 cache on the clawhammer is suppost to be 512k, on the opteron (sledgehammer version) it is suppost to be 1meg or more. As for what the clawhammer/sledgehammer details are have a look at a nice article Anand did on it ;)

What do you mean by specs? We know what the Hammer Architechure brings to the table in the article linked by crYnOid, so what do you mean by specs? L2 Cache should be 512k, it should start at least at 2GHz. ClawHammer will have a Single Channel DDR CDontroller, and it is unclear whether it will run in DP confiqurations, whereas Operton will have L2 Cahce's as high at 1MB, and it will feature a Dual Channel Memory controller. Also, I've heard rumors of a 800MHz front side bus, although it is unclear whether it is 64-bit like the Athlon's EV6 bus.

What he means is the rest of your message with all the "should"s replaced by "will"s.

<< Anyone know how far the ClawHammer will go in terms of MHZ? >>

On the .13 micron proccess you mean? Hmmm, I think that it should at least reach 2.6 or 2.7GHz, maybe even close to 3GHz, but remember, eventually, they'll move to .09 Micron technology so, who knows how far it will end up going.

In that case, here are some confirmed specs:

1. ClawHammer will debut at at least 2GHz (according to AMD CEO Jerry Sanders).
2. ClawHammer will have 512K of L2 cache (Sander's has said that ClawHammer won't ever have less cache than Barton (which is now 512K L2). Also, Sanders revealed ClawHammer's transistor count among other things, which points to approx. how much cache ClawHammer will have, 512K L2).
3. ClawHammer will be able to run 32-bit apps and OS's as well as 64-bit apps and OS's, as well as combinations of them.
4. ClawHammer will sell at a premium price over the Athlon XP at debut (the Athlon XP at this time will be a Barton processor) and will naturally settle in price there after.
5. ClawHammer uses a single channel interface, whereas Opteron (Sledge) uses a dual channel interface.
6. ClawHammer will have an IHS lid (heat spreader) similar to the Northwood Pentium 4.
7. ClawHammer won't have a FSB (since that term's original meaning is now useless when talking about Hammer, because of it's intergrated NorthBridge).

Is there anything else you really need to know?

That 800MHz FSB claim (which I myself often use) isn't 100% accurate. FSB on Hammer is not a traditional FSB, but a HyperTransport-link. That "800MHz FSB" simply means that it has as much bandwidth as 800Mhz FSB would have (400MHz DDR for example. For comparison, the new P4's will have 533MHz FSB)
