If you're an Navy Engineer developing sonar technology, there is a special sonar publication.

The thought of classified journals had never really crossed my mind. I wonder what all they've found that hasn't been released.

It's not uncommon for research to stay within the institution or government. Most of this stuff is classified because of its relation to a classified project. So it may be something as banal as a performance report of a classified system, a new algorithm to be used with a classified system, etc. Some of the old antenna and radar publications were classified that I have looked through (since been declassified but it is still a bit amusing to be reading a 50 year old paper with the CLASSIFIED stamp on all the pages). I have not really heard of an entire journal devoted to classified publications. Most of the ones I have seen were distributed internally or presented at conferences.

I don't know of any specific journals, but there are tons of material that is not available to the general public. Everything from classified material to material that is under NDA. One company Broadcom is rather famous for releasing next to nothing on their chip designs. I understand the reason since having that information would make it easy to reverse engineer the products. Still takes the fun out of it for those on the outside.

I know of stuff that was considered secret in 1990 in the Navy that is still not released now. It isn't stuff like infinite energy, but stuff like protocols used for communication circuitry , methods for radiation protection, etc.

The purpose of a journal is to disseminate information, so what would the purpose of a classified journal be? People who need to know the information already have access to it via technical reports which may be classified, unclassified, or sensitive. Even if one has top secret clearance, he cannot see any classified document he wants to see - he can only see those which he needs to see. In short, I don't believe that such journals exist.

"classified journal"=collection of classified technical reports.

It's not too hard to believe that such things exist.

Of course they could, but why would they? They would all have to be on the same topic, and anyone with clearance to read them would see them before they were compiled anyway. I just don't see why anyone would bother putting them together.

Having clearance does not in itself give you the authority to read classified dcuments. You must also possess a "need to know".
Anyways, as a rule, the military classifies just about every piece of information that they have. For more info, go read the "Freedom of information Act"

That's pretty much what I said... The journal would have to be on a single, narrowly-defined subject.

That's not really true. The technical reports that I wrote are freely available online, as are a great number of them. The military tries to limit the amount of classified material because they have to pay for each person's classified status, plus all of the overhead and general pain that is involved with working with classified material.
