So maybe I'm getting old or something, but I'm starting to appreciate classical piano some. I just came across it on youtube randomly and find myself listening to crappy youtube videos. I'd like some nice cds or the like.

I don't really know much about classical piano, but I enjoy Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2. I've listened to a few different versions of it now, Lang Lang, Maksim, Cortot, Horowitz, and it's neat to hear the different interpretations.

I'd love to here from some fellow ATOTers about particular pieces/pianists I should try.

My favorite kind of music! I recommend the following:

Chopin - the etudes, scherzos, nocturnes and sonatas 2 and 3
Debussy - etudes, preludes, suite bergamasque
Ravel - Gaspard de la Nuit, Sonatine, Miroirs, Jeux d'eau, Valses nobles et sentimentales
Bach - Goldberg Variations, Art of Fugue
Beethoven - Hammerklavier, Diabelli Variations
Bartok - Sonata for Piano, Out of the Doors, Allegro Barbaro
Charles Ives - Concord Sonata
Ligeti - etudes, Musica ricercata
Elliott Carter - 90+, Piano Sonata, Night Fantasies
Franz Schubert - Wanderer Fantasy
Liszt - the mephisto waltzes
Alkan - etudes, Grande Sonate 'Les Quatre Ages', Concerto for solo piano
