This is what Amazon is for. I would not go to those places to purchase CD's even if they did carry a better selection.

Hehe, that's pretty hilarious. I hate looking for classical music in stores. The Borders by my house in San Diego actually has a pretty large collection, I think 2 aisles. However, they're all budget label crap recorded by orchestras like The New Philharmonia Orchestra of Flagstaff or something. Granted I just made that one up, but you know what I'm talking about. Online is the only way to go.

Hehe :D

"If you come looking for a particular title, you have a 600:1 chance of finding it" (paraphrased). Sooooo true...

It saddens me that it has become this way. I still peruse the classical sections at my local Borders, because sometimes I'll get lucky and find something worthwhile (e.g. I found a recording of Vivaldi's Nulla in Mundo Pax Sincera w/ Emma Kirkby - my fav soprano).

Btw, did you ever learn Mozart's 23rd? :)

Very true. A lot of publishing companies rerelease a lot of excellent work (e.g. Decca), but only in the UK. I've ordered a lot of late 80's recordings from the Academy of Ancient Music from Amazon UK. It takes longer, but it's worth it. For example, I searched for this recording for weeks before Decca contacted me telling me they were rereleasing the work, but only in the UK. I highly recommend that piece, btw :)

Sadly, no. :( I got caught up in a bunch of other smaller works instead. But hey, I am learning a Beethoven Sonata, so, I'm very busy. I've got a masterclass coming up on Sunday in which I am performing a Rachmaninov Prelude (E flat major).

Here's the real crap of the situation: I was invited to perform in a concerto competition-the winner of this competition would perform with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Had I learned the Mozart when I originally planned to (or any of the others I was considering, the Grieg for example) I could have competed. I wouldn't have won, mind you, but it would have been fun to compete for the chance to play with probably the finest symphony in the world. :)
