Is their anyway to get the classic start menu in W7 without turning off all the eye candy stuff?

I don't think so...and I don't know why you'd want to. The new one is a lot better (and has the search bar).

No, it doesn't exist in Windows 7. Some people have suggested using GP to force the Classic Start Menu but if you look closely that policy doesn't apply to Windows 7. You're going to have to either use the new menu or find an alternative such as VistaStartMenu.

The "Classic" start menu does not exist in 7. You'll have to do 3rd party if you must have it, and even then the file system isn't the same as XP's anyways. My advise is simply to use it for a while as is - It works perfectly well once you've made the mental adjustment.

Aw ok. I guess I have to get used to it then :-( I've always hated that style of menu ever since Xp first introduced it...Its going to take along while to get used to that thing...

Take control of the folder and organize the links into folders that make more sense and have fewer items. I did and I rarely scroll.

So there is no classic menu in Windows 7?

I use classic theme in Vista. I like the functional look and I am sure it's less resource-intensive.

 for taking away classic theme in Windows 7.

You started off on the right foot asking about the classic menu but veered offcourse when you started to talk about the classic theme...

The classic theme is there but the classic start menu is gone.

/facepalm.
The Aero glass theme is less resource intensive as it uses your GPU to render the GUI, therefore freeing up some system memory and CPU cycles for other tasks.

I use Windows 7 on my work laptop.. and no classic start menu really pisses me off.. still.. after a few months of using Windows 7.

Why the fuck do they take it out? Give me the option to go back.. or I'm going back to XP 64bit when I have the time to reinstall everything.

I don't understand how anyone would say Windows 7 is a 'better' OS than Windows XP.. It is better than Vista, yes.. but XP? NO. Sure, there are a few newer features in Windows 7 like the resource viewer.. But.. they still have not improved the network configuration - only changed it.. it still takes too many clicks to change IP address. And, the task manager in Windows 7 is awful. It should take me directly to task manager instantly if I press ctrl alt del.. I shouldn't have to click 3x to get there..

XP still gives you more control over your PC than windows 7. I'm a control freak.. and I have a right to be.. If I buy the computer, I OWN IT.
