While over at the steam forums I kept thinking about Team Fortress Classic (TFC). While I was thinking about TFC, I thought it would be nice to start a thread about games we played before the year 2000.

If I had to name 3 or 4 computer games that my life was consumed by, those games would probably be:

Doom
Diablo
Quake (and Quakeworld)
Team Fortress Classic

There were lots of other games, such as Half-Life, Warcraft II, Command & Conquer, Red Alert, Redneck Rampage, Diablo II, Quake II, Final Doom, and lots of others.

Those first 4 games probably defined gaming for a whole generation. For years after the release of Doom, all other first person shooters were called "Doom Clones". Doom set a standard that other games were judged by. The same thing went for Diablo and Quake.

I listed Team Fortress Classic because TFC was the second team based game I ever played, with Quake Team Fortress being the first. Quake Team Fortress was fun, but to me, TFC seemed like more fun.

This is great! I'm not the only person who used to play these games.

Some of my favorites were:

I remember playing the original Command & Conquer: Red Alert (1996). I rember when the first Doom (1993) and Duke Nukem 3D (1996) games came out. I also remember in 1998 when Half-Life my personal favorite game was released. Then in 1999 when CS came about it was all over for me. It’s been downhill ever since.

I remember another really early low end graphics/text game. I don't remember much about it, but the corridors were green lines in a box. And every once in a while you encountered this elf who "Loved your body" and healed you up. it was one of those endless dungeon type games and I remember each level was progressively tougher. I got down into the 90s once and it was really tough. Balrogs kept on killing me.

Telengard (i think). Thats pretty hard core if you got to the 90s! I was a kid when i played, and never got too far. The elf thing was disturbing to my young mind...

I dont remember being able to save in that either...
