Classic Doom Mouse Issues

Hey all. Despite having a pretty tricked out rig, I still love to play the old school Doom games from time to time. I'd love to be able to use the mouse and I've even considered making a small partition and installing Win95 (all 30 floppies) on it just to play the games. I'm trying this forum as a last resort before that so please, if you know what to do, shed some light on the situation! I've baked warm cookies for your help!

I've tried running it in Win95 compatiblity mode, I've tried enabling and disabling and enabling the mouse support again, I've tried copying the config, and opening it back up, and pretty much everything else that I've been able to find on Google. I'm fresh out of search terms and ideas... any help would be appreciated so much!

Thanks!!!

Doesn't work, but that was a very unique suggestion -- thanks! I've not seen anyone mention the DOS mouse driver at all in my time spent searching Google for an answer... I have a feeling I'll just need to install Win95, unfortunately. If anyone has any more suggestions, please feel free.

Thanks a bunch, this is even better than what I was hoping to get!

EDIT: I have a quick question about the mouse control in Doomsday: is there a way to bind the Y-axis to looking up and down instead of movement? I've had to disable the Y-axis because I kept trying to look up at an enemy and ended up moving forward instead! Also, I can't access the console with `. There is a command line input box in KickStart, though. Am I supposed to put a command like "mouselook" there? Thanks for your help.

Look around, I think there's more than one dos -> windows port. Back in 1997 I remember playing one that had Y axis support like you're asking, assuming this one doesn't.

Okay... I'll continue my search on Google, but frankly, I'm starting to run out of search terms to try... I'll give it some more time and effort and see what I come up with. The "worst comes to worst" scenario is no longer unbearable anymore, however, due to the contributions of the previous AT members' posts and Doomsday.

Thanks, you guys!

I'm not at home to check it right now, but I thought there was a config file with the key bindings that you can edit with a text editor like notepad. Sounds like you want to enable mouselook, which means you need to keep input-mouse-x and input-mouse-y enabled, but you need to unbind them from movement. You should be able to list the cvars with listvars.

Some other console commands:
listaliases
listbindings
listcmds
listfiles
listmaps

I'm not sure if the original Doom supports the mouse. However there are several newer doom engines that do. Try on of these:

ZDoom
PRBoom
Doom95
