Class action suit against Pacbell/SBC DSL in California

I just got a letter from the settlement administrator about an ongoing class action suit against Pacbell/SBC DSL. Those who qualify for the possible money back are current or former Pacbell/SBC DSL customers. The amount for the settlement is as follow: $50 for month-to-month non-contract customers, $75 for 1-year contract customers, and $100 for multi-year contract customers. If you originally signed up and entered a 1-year or multi-year contract, you're eligible for the $75 and $100, repectively, even though you're long over the contract. They're suing Pacbell/SBC DSL for not delivering the advertised speed, extraordinary interruptions, unusable usenet newsgroups, and/or security problems. So if you didn't get the letter yet and you are/were a Pacbell/SBC DSL customer, look for it soon.

OOOO...u have a copy of the email??...my coworker is in the exact same position..wonder if he received iT?..just in case he didn't, yeah i'll pm u later to send me a copy ..if that's ok w/ u...

It's an actual letter 😉 I can put up a scan, but I need to check why my scanner isnt being detected by my PC... 🙂

Yeah, got that too SOS. Couldn't understand all that legal stuff though haha. Don't think I would want to join anyway. Probably not worth and I hate to say it - PacBell has actually given me good service.

OMG! i better get this letter!

I got sbc w/ the 384-1.5mbps plan, but my dl speed never goes above 350 kbps. I called and tried to cancel my year contract but they wouldn't let me. Tech support said my line is only capable of 384?? blah! i hope i get the letter 😀

If your line is only capable of 384k, then 350k is about what you would get accounting for the fact of the overhead on DSL. So technically your current speed fits within their advertised plan. Maybe they should spell out the overhead for some people, I dont know. No matter what speed you get, you will never hit the max as there is always overhead.

I got the letter too. Do I have have to do is return the sheet and I'll receive 1 1/2 months free? 🙂

All SBC/Pacbell customers get this. We have their phone service but never touched the DSL. Uh, you guys want my letter haha?

it got it more than once, ive always had very good service from them and the 2 times my dsl went out their response was fast freindly and efficient. my speeds are way beyond what they told me.

their newsgroups dont carry alot of the stuff to cut out in costs as stated in an letter they sent.

plus they are standing their ground against the RIAA so i doubt ill join this fight.

Im in so cal

Soo can someone explain how all this works? Do I just fill out this form here, and send it in? I don't have to pay anything right?

What should I put under the Claims area?
