Class act, Bush

Unfortunately, Bush also made the following statement:
``This crusade, this war on terrorism, is going to take awhile. ''
To Muslim people of the world, the reference to the Crusades is probably alarming. I agree with using whatever force it takes to get the terrorists wherever they may be, but I think Bush used a bad analogy.

We all know Bush is a little short vocabulary-wise, even with speach writers He was just using the word "crusade" as in "a vigorous concerted movement for a cause or against an abuse" which, unfortunately, is the third definition in the dictionary. Also, I don't know how many times he's used to word "evil" in the last two days, but it's becoming excessive. He could have used nemesis, abominable, malevolent, pestilent, sinister, virulent, venomous, reprehensible, or detestable. But maybe none of these is as direct as "evil-doers".

EDIT: Staying on topic, yes, this was a class act by Bush, and he gave a message that I think is worth repeating several times, in case some of these fools don't get it the first/second/third time.

I definitely agree. I'm not a big fan of BUSH
but I like what he did by visiting that Mosque.

He has been given a very difficult task but I believe that he is up to it.

To the people of America planes slamming into the WTC and Pentagon is alarming, they'll get over it.

Yeah, being an atheist (don't even start here people!), I'm pissed by the "Holy War" being waged against me as an American too. Good call etech.

That was a very nice thing for Bush to do.
It was not only needed to help stop violence, but to help bring us all together.

The visit to the mosque was an absolutely superb thing for him to do, and that speech was tremendous and needed. It was especially valuable as his comments were heartfelt and came from a right-wing President-making it clear that the American government and people generally will not tolerate this sort of backlash. OTOH, at a time when all the world is focused on every word and action he takes, loose talk about a crusade (plays right into the Muslim extremist's concept of a holy war, which is exactly what we should NOT be doing) or his Wild West talk about wanting bin Landen "dead or alive," he misfires, badly. Lets hope the blunders lessen and the good actions predominate.

I remember questioning Bushes ability to lead this country during a time of Crisis. I am pleased to say that I was wrong. Like I said in an earlier post in another thread, extrordinary times makes common people extrordinary leaders and in Bushes case this rings true. This tragedy was visited on the common American and who better to speak and lead the common American than one of their own.

Bush's simple plan is to precede every stern statement with the words "Make no mistake about it..."

I think he's doing an incredible job, considering the terrible weight on his shoulders.
He's keeping very calm, making very level-headed decisions.
Way to go Bush!

I agree, I think the President has done a good job of combatting anti-arab sentiment in the US. It was very big of him to go to the Mosque, and observe the Islamic custom of removing his shoes whilst entering. He has also spoken up for Arab-American rights during the past week. I think no matter what your previous opinion of President Bush has been, we all ought to agree that he's been doing a very good the past week.

I think that if we don't try to do things to really be fair, not just in words, but in deeds to the billion muslems in the world, we will have no chance of solving the terrorist problem. "The sword of God is the empty bellies of the poor" A muslem saying.

We support Israel lopsidedly over the Palistinians, we continue a policy of sanctions against Iraq that causes massive suffering among ordinary Iraqies, we bomb milk factories and innocent civilians in Afghanistan. Everybody loves their children and family members as much as we do. We've been pissed for a week and a day. Millions have suffered massively for years and years and years. If you cannot care about others, they will make you care.

I am not arguing that we are wrong; I am expressing how we are perceived. Where is our Marshall plan for the betterment of the human race. I am not saying we do nothing; only how we are perceived. Are we famous for serving our interests or for the help we give to others.
