Clash of The Titans?

I have mixed feeling of that movie. It's so corny, but I like it so much. Not sure why, but I feel like Titan Quest almost reminds me of that movie when I play it. They're pretty different, but something about it reminds me of that movie.

I was just playing Titan Quest when I thought to make this thread.

Greek fantasy is an area that Hollywood ignored when the 80's struck and it was all about silly comedies and over-the-top action flicks. Remember, even though the first one came out in 1981 it was filmed in 1979 and then held up. Since then we really havent seen much. Historically accurate Greek and Roman movies have been far more popular.

I got to thinking about this after The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe came out. Sure it was lame in many ways but it was a hundred times better than the earlier versions.

The original was pretty good, but will hardly go down in history as one of the all-time greats or even as a classic of the genre. There's no legacy to protect, so let them take a swipe at it with modern CGI replacing stop-motion animation. It will *probably* suck, but there's at least a chance that they can improve upon the first one.

Clash of the Titans kicks ass! At the same time though, remember that it was made at the same time as Star Wars Empire Strikes Back. Clash of the Titans' special effects were stuck back in the glory days of Harryhausen's Sinbad and Jason and the Argonauts. They just can't compare to what ILM was putting out at the time.

The cheesy stop motion animation is the only reason people still watch Ray Harryhausen movies. Modern effects would ruin it!

I enjoyed the original as a kid, but even then I knew the special effects sucked. I have no doubt any modern remake would actually go way (way, way, way) over the top with the special effects and make it even worse. Hollywood sucks.

The original was not a great movie by any stretch but it's one of those things that anyone who grew up in the 80's is going to hold fondly. Doing a remake is just stupid because they will just replace the bad stop-motion with bad CG. In summary, 80's brats will hate the remake but the kids of today might love it for the same reason we liked the original.

not like the old version will be taken off the shelves.

The original was somewhat ground breaking in that it was a PG rated movie with a nice long naked butt scene.

Let's see if the remake can live up to that legacy.

Heh. Clash of the Titans is what got me interested in Greek mythology as a kid. Granted, I would go on to find out that Clash barely resembled Greek mythology but at least it got me reading it. 🙂

yeap i agree.

but maybe it will be good..

Loved the original even if the stop motion was cheesy looking. Always loved the ancient greek setting and all the monsters and stuff (medusa, kraken..etc). Burgess Meredith, Laurence Olivier and Maggie Smith were great. fun movie!

I wouldn't mind a modern remake but as others here say..it'll probably be way over the top with CG. Never heard of this Sam Worthington fellow who is set to play Perseus. I love the setting and story so I'll keep an eye out. I"m a total sucker for ancient greek/roman stuff.

no way. don't mess with the clickety-clack-whirl of that mechanical owl... those effects are just too priceless 🙂

not to mention the scene with the minotaur and the whip..... LOL. those effects were just precious.

oh yeah, forgot about the rest of the cast. yeah, some serious blokes in that. I really liked the idea of the Gods directly controlling each mortal, as if little statuettes in a diorama. Haven't seen it presented that way anywhere else.

Really cool, and as a kid, I think it was a succinct and effective way to convey how the Gods operated and were perceived in traditional Greek mythology.

There is a 98.2% chance the remake will fail.

I have the DVD and was pleasantly surprised it is rated PG and got away with such nudity. That said, the girl who played Andromeda was absolutely stunning.
