Just curious if there is a new rule covering the asking of dead components.

This thread was not locked

While this one was.

I mean can you say that you want parts for a keychain and that passes as a sufficient reason?

The whole thing with the buying of dead parts (I mean newer stuff, not old VESA cards and SIMMS) bothers me in that if a person makes another deal with someone on the boards and claims DOA (using a previous bought dead part), the shipping party may have been trusting and not written part/serial numbers down. I'm not trying to accuse anyone but, I would prefer to see a set rule forbidding the asking of dead components. I think it is in the best interest of the forum.

I don't know if you really can by giving a reason. Could be a lie, who knows. And although nothing is set in stone, just look at it. The first guy sounds reasonable because he's asking for one dead Tbird for a keychain. THe next guy however, is asking for a ton of dead high quality parts without giving a reason. I don't know just seems more like scamming the manufacturer but then again he could want them for some weird reason.

knowingly selling a dead component to a person knowingly buying a dead component is not a bad idea =P

As long as the person makes it clear the reason he/she wants a dead component and it sounds legitimate then I think it should be allowed. Whether it sounds legitimate would be left to the Mod's discretion I'd imagine.

As an example purchasing a single processor to make a keychain, or some old SIMM's for the same purpose should be okay.

I agree.... and I just called him on it.

I think it's B.S. He read this thread and saw how the other dude got away by mentioning keychains and so he does the same thing.

my chips are in on banning all doa chip sales, giveaways whatever. This just lends to way too much trouble...
