clarify: ET vs. EST vs. EDT

can someone tell me the difference (other than what it stands for) ?

EST is used when it's Eastern Standard Time (this time of year).

EDT is used when it's Eastern Daylight Time (during the summer).

I'm not sure what ET is for.

so if I'm putting a time on a website, do I mark it EST or EDT ? Or is ET the "safe" way to go ? I mean, you gotta use one...

Frankly, I don't know why they had to segregate standard and daylight... is it because a timezone doesn't change during one of the seasons ? If so, which ?

Indiana didn't used to change. They were always on EST. That led to a bit of confusion. I'd say you're safe just putting ET.

Go ahead and put ET; whether it's EDT, EST, Indiana, or whatever else can be inferred from what time of year it is.
