Clarificatoin on DeCSS

Ok, I have heard many different tidbits on DeCSS and DVD decrypting. I have, through my studies, interpretted DeCSS to be a program that does the decrypting. Could someone please elaborate on what exactly happens when you use DeCSS and give me a bit more information on the 2600.com case? Any input is welcome. Thanks a lot.

 

The data on a DVD is encoded. DeCSS decodes that data so it can be copied off the DVD. Simple as that.
