Clarification Sought Regarding Updating Intel's 815EP Chipset.

I went to the following site listed below and downloaded the file since my chipset, noted in the subject heading, was included as part of an update. After the download finished I looked at the read me file and noticed that the chipset was not included. I called Intel seeking clarification on the contradiction and they did nothing to shed light on the issue saying that since it was OEM and not part of an Intel motherboard I would have to call ASUS. Has anyone had a similar experience and if so how was it resolved?http://developer.intel.com/design/software/drivers/platform/inf.htm

Since the i815EP chipset is essentially the same as the i815E, it shouldn't matter.

If you have any doubts, grab the Chipset inf drivers from CUSL2.com

Where exactly are they at that site don't they simply provide a link to Intel's site? Additionaly, should one not be careful about upgradng a chipset which is not exactly the same? Are there not problems which could arise such as when one flashes the BIOS?

These are Chipset inf Drivers. Chipset inf drivers have nothing to do with the BIOS. They merely tell the OS what chipset devices exist and how to allocate resources to them.

A BIOS flash writes some code directly to hardware on the motherboard, and is permanent. Inf drivers are simply that: drivers....you can upgrade them, delete them, whatever...they follow the OS. You delete the OS, it is gone.

A BIOS flash tells the motherboard exactly how the hardware operates on a low level. Drivers are high level, and to all intents and purposes, the i815E and i815EP chipset are the same to the OS. They both have the same devices, but the inf driver does not supply the drivers to the onboard video. If you never install the i752 drivers on an i815E motherboard, the OS will simply see something similar to an i815EP anyway.

Oh....I just read over at CUSL2.com that you are trying to load the i815 Chipset Graphic Control driver.

Don't bother loading it.....it's for the i815E CUSL2...not for your CUSL2-C.

That driver is for the onboard i752 graphics processor....which the CUSL2-C (i815EP) does not have...that's why it says hardware not found.
