Can someone ellaborate on how WINS handles multiple records with the same IP address?

Example...someone logs into VPN and registers their name/address with WINS. They disconnect, someone else logs on, recieves the same address and registers it in WINS as well. Now theres 2 different hostname entries with the same IP. At what point does the old entry get cleared? The renewal interval, database verification, etc?

On that same note, when the first computer reconnects to another segment and recieves a new ip address, it SHOULD register that in WINS immediately right? It seems to be retaining that old VPN address for a good while...tia.

I wouldn't think it good practice to register VPN clients in WINS, but that's just me. Nobody should be trying to access their machine from across the VPN.

we have constant scans being ran and patches being pushed all day. its a requirement to be able to resolve ip addresses by just the computer name, even on the remote segments.
