Clarification of rules

I originally took my issue to with the following thread to pm. First about a mod issue, and then about a regular user

When I saw a mod and a member personally attacking people. I took it to PM and recieved no response. When JohnofSheffield was attacking people and then me I took it to pm.

Since I didn't get a response to my pm, and no mod posted anything in the thread about Sheffields posts, I'm assuming it was condoned? I didn't really like not being able to flame him back, but there were enough mods in the thread that I figured it would be smartest to abide by the rules and it would be taken care of.

I'd just like to know if I should have just called him a twat or if we're supposed to refrain from personal attacks?


As usual there are people that just can't help but yank on a topic to pull it off course.
You best be careful of how you address this "moderator bias". I am one mod who won't hesitate to enforce rule 12 and 13.

Let's review a subportion of that cluster-thread that should have resulted in half a dozen other vacations.

The core of your complaint stems from these events:

Odin made a rude comment about GeekBabe (the start a blog comment)
TinyDancer told him that wasn't cool (paraphrasing here)
Odin kept pushing
JohnOfSheffield pointed out both of them should shutup. I agree with his assertion they were bothin being busybodies. Now, he could have worded that much better, agreed. He used a personal attack which may be actionable

... This is where your issue begings ...

Instead of PM'ing a mod or posting here in PFI, you took it upon yourself to ACT like a mod. You started posting forum rules chapter and verse. And then, not unsurprisingly, you got attacked for that.

In short, if there is an issue, let us know. Don't try to play 'mod' with the others posters.

Regardless, if posting the forum rules is a reason to throw them out, this doesn't excuse the personal attacks on other members that Sheffield made. It doesn't excuse the gay-baiting in the thread by a mod. I did pm the mod account about both(admittedly I pm'd about sheffield after quoting the rules, because I knew at least two mods were actively involved in the thread already), and nothing happened.

Oh well, I lose. Live and learn. Will just nef next time.

Yes, and that personal attack wasn't directed at *you*. You stepped in and quoted the rules. That was you playing mod.

What mods were participating in the thread? GB had resigned at that time, and Perknose only posted to warn people to calm down, he never participated in the thread. Gay baiting, where was there 'gay baiting'. While those comments from John needed to be dealt with, they were. Dont presume your aware of all discussions and communications that goes on between members.

Will just nef next time.

I think what Bill was getting at is people feel the need to attack another person who is trying to play god when they don't have the authority. Just continue to nef without breaking the rules and you should be fine.

He knows them. He was trying to calm the thread down while being funny. Its not the job of other posters, such as the OP of this thread to play moderator. If *those* users wish to raise the issue they know they can. They are aware of the spirit and context in which those comments were made, and I don't believe they have an issue with them (if they do, they can let me know in this thread or privately)

i don't care about the whole "mod" thing, you asked a question and i answered it.

Your comments about Perknose are questionable, but your comment that "mod stick together" made this an easy decision. That was the basis of your timeout.

It is absolutely absurd to claim I was calling Nik or K1052 gay. I asked them both to stop flaming Geekbabe.

I would have been well within the rules to vacation those two and others at that point. I asked them to move along, and stop being flamers.

You, and many others, have tried to twist my words to mean something they didn't.
